I thank the universe often that Cameron Mitchell opened his restaurants in Columbus Ohio. There are no more detail oriented, creative eateries anywhere…even the big cities. And…although he sold several of them I again count my lucky stars that he kept some of them too…because you can tell the difference. These facts are more obvious to me right now because I visited two of them in the past week (See Cameron’s Bistro for the other review).
To celebrate the start of my birthday week (and those of you who know me know the celebration actually lasts the entire month of July), we decided to visit the Ocean Club at Easton.
D started with his usual Manhattan and I selected the Passion Martini- “Pineapple Infused Finlandia Vodka, Fresh Squeezed Lemon, Passion Fruit Puree” ($12). The obviously fresh juices were the perfect refreshment on a hot summer day…and in Cameron Mitchell style…they took it to the next level by adding dry ice to the drink so it was bubbling, smoking and frigid when it arrived at the table.
We decided to start with the Signature Appetizer- “Colossal Shrimp Sauté, Tabasco Cream Sauce” ($15). These were served in more of a broth with garlic cheese bread toasts. Again, fabulous…the only complaint was that we wanted more.
D selected the 10 oz Kobe Cheeseburger served with Vermont Cheddar, French Fries ($18). The Kobe beef was outstanding and the homemade french fries were crispy and salty bliss.
I chose the Blackened Snapper served with Wilted Spinach & Jalapeno Corn Tartar ($31). No surprise here…absolutely fresh fish, seasoned and cooked to perfection. I did bring half of the snapper home with me in order to save room for…drum roll here…the greatest dessert in the world!
Not to get all weepy on you, but they use to serve this at Mitchell’s Steak House and when the ownership changed hands they deleted it from the menu. So I was beyond thrilled to see it on the Ocean Club Menu. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie- is a rich Peanut Butter Mousse on top of a chocolate crust covered with warm Bittersweet Chocolate Ganache ($7). Ahhhh…it just doesn’t get any better than this!
The Ocean Club is a top choice for celebrations or when you want to treat yourself. Note that we were pretty early and there were a couple of kids present but it is Easton.
